PT Update – 4/30

Torticollis No Comments

A month and a half after starting PT for torticollis we are still there. Our pedi really made it seem like it would only take a month since he is so mild, but I guess not. We went today and for the most part he’s tilting a lot less which is definitely a plus, but he’s still not wanting to do anything she wants him to do. He doesn’t want to put pressure on his hands (even though I got him to do it yesterday on all 4s). He doesn’t want to sit assisted or unassisted (even though he will at home). He was just a fussy fussy baby today at PT! Refusing to do anything she wanted him to do. Which makes it hard for her to see if he’s making any progress in other areas besides his torticollis. She showed me a few things to do to teach him how to sit up straight so I’ll be adding that to our neverending list of exercises. Until next week!

Bye Bye Infant Seat

Milestones No Comments

I don’t need you anymore! Today after we got home from visiting Grandma mommy took my infant seat out of the car and put in my new fancy Evenflo Triumph. It’s such a comfy seat too and finally a seat that I’m not too big for…reminds me of the days when I was a tiny little baby coming home from the hospital.

PT Update – 4/23

Torticollis No Comments

We got back from PT not too long ago. Compared to last week he isn’t tilting as much. But he is still tilting. She said that he is tilting about 25% of the time. She isn’t too worried about it though and is ok with us keeping our weekly appointments instead of going back to biweekly. She went over our goals for the next month and they include having him lift himself with his hands (which he should have been doing by now) and sitting up with his back straight. His long term goal is to get him on all fours, but before we can do that he needs to be able to pick his chest up with his arms.

He is getting better at putting pressure on his arms. His problem is his right arm. He’s dominant in his left just like his daddy is but because of that he prefers roll to his right because he’ll push off with his stronger left arm. I asked her as we were leaving if this is going to be a big problem and if it is something we should worry about and she told me that there are some babies that just don’t want to do this and its fine. But if by 10 months he’s not on all fours or doesn’t want to push himself up then there is a problem. Its definitely not neurological because he’s a happy and active baby he just refuses to lift himself and put pressure on his arms. He is just a lazy baby!

Growing boys need their SLEEP

Milestones No Comments

So for the past couple of days Mikey has not been himself when it comes to sleeping. He typically naps for a couple of hours during the day but the past few days all he has wanted to do was sleep sleep sleep. The past two days he has missed 1 bottle because he wanted to sleep. Daddy is convinced that his arms and legs look longer than they did over the weekend. And I do see it myself too. He’s definitely not sick because when he is awake he is his normal self so I guess we’ll wait and see what this latest growth spurt brings us.

Adventures in Shopping

Pics 1 Comment

Bye bye infant seat hello Floppy! On Saturday during our normal Publix shopping run we decided to see if Mikey would like sitting in the shopping cart in his Floppy Seat instead of in his big bulky infant carrier. From the moment he went in the thing he was doing his happy squeels. He was looking at everything and was just amazed at all the stuff on the shelves. I guess when he was in his infant seat his view was a bit limited. Daddy captured the event with his handy dandy Blackberry. Here are a few pics:

6 Months WBV

Stats No Comments

We just got back from our 7:45am appointment. The first appointment of the day SHOULD NOT take well over an hour to get out of there!!! We only saw the doctor for what seemed like 3 minutes too. So we got in the back and undressed Mikey. He immediately did not like this. It’s like he knew what was going to happen. So we weighed him and took his measurements. He is a whopping 19lbs 10oz. And he is measuring 27.5 inches long. He’s in the 90% percentile for both weight and height. Then the doctor came in and he started whimpering, so she quickly looked him over. Said he’s doing great. We got the ok to start juice, max of 4oz a day. We also got the ok to start 3 meals a day too which I was going to start this weekend anyways. She said next month we can start introducing meats and to start with white meats first. I asked her about YoBaby and she said that she likes to wait until around 10 months for yogurt. And for puffs she said she likes to start those around 9 months.

She noticed him jamming his fingers in his mouth and said his teeth are coming in. Uh no duh! I told her he already has two, don’t know how she missed them because its not like they are tiny stubs anymore. So she’s thinking its his uppers that are bothering him now.

Before he got his shots I asked the nurse about motrin and she confirmed that we are now allowed to give it to him since he is 6 months old. Besides that it was a noneventful visit. We got our free formula, paid our copay, and hasta la casa we went!

Happy Half Birthday to you….

Happy Half Birthday to you….Happy Half Birthday to Mikey! Happy Half Birthday to you!

Can’t believe you are already 6 months old. The last 6 months have flown by so fast but we’ve enjoyed every minute of it. We know the next 6 months will be just as exciting too. We love you little man!

PT Update – 4/16

Torticollis No Comments

Mikey had his reevaluation today at PT. When we got there Channel 10 news was filming something and Kristi Krueger was there. She saw Mikey and commented on how cute he was. We’ve seen her before at Publix but it was cool seeing her again at PT. I was secretly hoping she’d ask why he was there and ask if we’d like to do a segment on torticollis. LOL In my dreams!

So he’s still tilting and she was disappointed in that. He’s still not propping himself up with extended arms and he isn’t always aligning his head with his trunk when pulled to a sitting position. He is however pulling himself to sitting, which he wasn’t always doing a month ago and he is rolling from belly to back consistently which he wasn’t a month ago either. She once again mentioned going to a specialist since they have all kinds of tests they can run to keep track of his progress but I guess we’ll discuss this more next week if he is still tilting.

We got a list of their milestones for months 6-8 so that we know what we should be helping him learn. He’s doing some of these already.

So the list is:

  • Sitting: trunk erect in chair
  • Upright: extends legs and takes large percentage of weight
  • Prone: reaches
  • Prone: assumes quadraped
  • Body on body righting begins
  • Sits unsupported for 30 seconds
  • Supine: optical righting
  • Prone: Landau response
  • Sitting: protective extension to the front
  • Parachute reaction
  • Sitting: optical righting when tipped to sides
  • Supine: rolls to prone
  • Prone: pivots
  • Prone: crawls
  • Supine: rolls to sides
  • Sitting: protective extension to the sides
  • Standing: moves body up and down
  • Sitting: assists in pulling to standing
  • Supine: rotates to sitting and quadruped
  • Ready…Set….Giggle!!!!

Last night when daddy got home he went out back to water the plants with the hose. Mommy carried me to the glass door so I could watch what daddy was doing. Then he sprayed the door and I thought it was the funniest thing ever. Mommy quickly grabbed the camera to capture the moment on video. Hope you enjoy my laughs as much as they did.
