It was a total fluke too I’m sure! But after Mikey woke up from his nap this afternoon I went ahead and changed his diaper like I normally do. Well I could tell he was about to pee so instead of quickly changing him I thought let’s put him on his potty chair to see if he’ll pee. He sat there for about 5 minutes. We took a look through a magazine and all of a sudden I notice he is peeing! It even surprised him. But it was super cute!!!!!

We had a pretty good PT session. It wasn’t off to a great start because Mikey was sooooo in need of a nap but thankfully our therapist got creative and decided to try some new things with him. This time she took him outside where they have some stairs that they use for therapy and had him walking up and down the stairs which was super cute. He was slightly tilted to the right which is NOT the way he normally tilts but overall it wasn’t bad at all. He absolutely refused to take steps on his own like he did the last night. No matter how hard she tried to entice him he just would not do it. It’s been 2 weeks since his first steps so who knows when he’ll figure its ok to do it again. Hopefully soon because I’m ready for that milestone!
Here are two pics of him on the stairs from yesterday’s session:

We had PT last night. I was so glad to go because we weren’t able to go on Monday because of Mikey’s fever. He didn’t have a fever except for early yesterday morning so he was allowed to go. For the most part PT went well. Because he wasn’t really feeling great still he would get fussy and cranky and would want to do what HE wanted to do, so our therapist would have to adjust what she’d do with him. She was able to get him to stand for over a minute on his own. That was the first time he’s ever stood up unassisted for that long. He was there long enough for me to take my camera out of my bag and snatch a pic, here he is:

I told our therapist that we bought Mikey a little chair and that he knew how to climb in it himself an sit like a big boy and she pulled out their little chair and had him do it. Apparently this is a skill that doesn’t come until around 19 months so he’s ahead of the game. Yay for him!!! Here is a pic of him getting into position in the chair:

She didn’t really complain much about his tilt so that’s a good thing. She did say that she noticed it more when he was standing and that is where I’m seeing it more this week. I’m sure it all has to do with him feeling like crap right now and I know it’ll pass but I just wish he’d get past this already.

Forgot to mention in my last post that Mikey has a super cute new trick. Over the weekend we caught him holding his hand up to his ear and started to gab away like he was on the phone. Thought it was a fluke the first time I saw him do it but then daddy saw him do it and pointed it out to me. After that we’d see him pick up random objects, like books and shoes and hold them up to his ear and start talking. He is calling daddy every time. It’s HILARIOUS because he knows what to do and really gets into his phone conversation. I gave him one of my old cell phones to play with and he puts it by his ear, sometimes its really by his cheek, and he starts talking away. It’s amazing how they just know what to do. Guess he sees us doing it enough that he picked up on our cool trick.

We stayed home yesterday because Mikey still had a fever. It kept going up and down up and down so finally I gave in and took him to the doctors. She looked him over, no sign of an ear infect, thank god! She did say that it could be roseola. She ran a CBC and it showed that he is fighting off something viral but if it is roseola we won’t know until the fever is gone and a rash appears. He had a fever at 5am this morning but so far its been staying down. Hopefully it’ll stay down so that I can return to the office tomorrow and he can return to daycare in time for Santa’s big arrival on Friday.
Last night since Mikey was in a good mood we practiced walking but this time I tried something different. I’d stand behind him so that he could lean on my legs if he was to drift backwards. Then I leaned over him and put my hands in front of him and wiggled my fingers so that he could walk and reach towards my hands. Well he took 1 step last night, thought it was a fluke so I retried it today since he woke up from his nap in a good mood. He took 2-3 steps this time and got all excited he’d run in place. He did manage to fall backwards on the tile and hit his head really hard but it only took about 5 minutes to calm him down. He’s acting normal so I’m sure he’s fine. But YAY he took his first steps completely unassisted! Guess I’ll be getting the one thing I want for Christmas after all!!!

Yesterday afternoon Mikey came down with a slight fever. I immediately gave him some tylenol and that brought it down by batch time last night. All night long he was tossing and turning and complaining in his sleep. I knew something wasn’t right but I didn’t want to go in there unless he was crying which he wasn’t. I got ready for work at my normal time of 5:30 and did my thing. Put our stuff in the car and when I went to get him at 6:30 he felt really really warm. So I immediately took his temp. It was 101.6, I immediately gave him a dose of motrin.
The cutoff at daycare is 102 and when I asked daddy for his advice he recommended that we stay home. Thankfully I can work from home but still trying to work with a sick baby isn’t easy stuff! I’ve been monitoring his temp ever since then. And it appears to be going down but its still over the 101 marker which is what the pediatrician says is when they want you to start medicating.
So no PT today. What sucks is today is a day he’d need it the most because he’s tilting REALLY bad. The TOT collar isn’t even helping him with that.

Ok this update is a tad overdue. Been actually busy so haven’t had a chance to post it. PT this past Monday went well. Mikey’s therapist really was encouraging him to do things standing, especially where he wasn’t putting all of his weight on the object he was holding onto. So she got creative and put some sticky balls onto the mirror and had him reach one and then go to the other that way he was balancing his weight himself, instead of using an object. And she also used a small chair that spins and put some toys on top and it would force him to use his trunk to balance his weight. Here are a few pics:

We decided to go on a family outing to Aventura Mall to go see Santa, oh and hit the Apple Store too. That is my favorite mall down here in South Florida and even though there is a mall 10 minutes from our house I rather drive 30 minutes to go to the better mall. They have fabulous Christmas decorations too. When we first got to the mall we got to see a very cool Train set display that was by JCPenney’s. Every yeah they improve it. It had a little people singing and dancing, a boat that was pulling a water skiier, and a little mini replica of the mall, complete with the Apple Store, can’t forget the Apple Store!
We then walked towards where Santa would be. Had to pass by the Holiday train setup that they have every year. I can’t wait for Mikey to be old enough to ride it himself because it has improved a ton since when I was a kid. It’s just WAY cool now!
Then we went to go see Mr. Claus. They had the same exact setup as last year. I was totally ready for Mikey to have a hissy fit when we put him on Santa’s lap. But he didn’t! The kid was a freaking ham just smiling like crazy. He looked at the camera and everything. He was soooooooo not afraid of an old man in a red suit that wanted to hold him and take a picture of him.
So presenting Mikey with Santa – 2008:

And to take a quick trip down memory lane, this was Mikey with Santa last year, he has grown sooooooooo much since then:

Not sure where Mikey learned this but lately if you just sing the E-I-E-I-O part of Old McDonald he repeats it. It’s is sooooooo cute to hear him say that part.
Also daddy taught him how to clean his hands. He’ll put a dab of purell on Mikey’s hands and he’ll rub his hands together to spread it. It’s hilarious to watch!
I’ll try to get both of these on video but no guarantees because he tends to not do what I want as soon as he see the video camera.

We went to PT yesterday and it went well. Just a normal PT session. She did notice that he was tilting a lot to his right which isn’t the side he normally tilts to. So she wants me to keep an eye on that. We ended the session with using the push walker to walk back to the waiting area. It’s a pretty far distance and it used to take Mikey a good 10-15 minutes to go the entire way. This time he pretty much ran with the push walker and got there within 5 minutes. I was very impressed with him. He is doing a lot better with walking just still not quite ready to let go and do it himself. He’ll get there eventually.
Here’s a pic of him walking at PT last night:
