I know its bad blogging etiquette to try to really catch readers up on what’s been going on or going “Oops I haven’t posted in awhile”. Who cares right? Well I do. I started this blog to document the life of our little Mikey. Things have gotten really crazy in the last few months with his daddy beginning chemotherapy and us having to travel back and forth between Florida and Maryland every 2 weeks. But it doesn’t mean that Mikey isn’t important enough to update on.
So I did find an AWESOME daycare for him. I couldn’t be happier with him there now. Compared to his old daycare this is soooooooooo much better. He does art activities just about every day. It’s so much fun picking him up and bringing home real art projects, not just some drawings that he did every once in awhile. What’s most important is that Mikey loves his new daycare. Some days he doesn’t care to come home, if that’s not a sign of him being at the right place then I don’t know what is.
His vocab is blossoming too. Every couple of days you’ll spot a new word come out. He’s not into phrases yet. He does have conversations but its all babbling right now. But what is important is he is able to communicate. His newest and my most hated word is Mine. Everything is Mine. He wants my knife, my soda, my fork, my everything, because its his. Ummmmm sorry buddy its not yours! Until you get a job EVERYTHING in this house is MINE.
and can I say how sad I am. I know I posted in the past my Woah’s about daycare. But ever since Mikey moved to the toddler room it has been such a GREAT experience. I LOVE his teachers. They are so great and sooooooo caring. I had known for a few weeks now that my boss was looking into moving our team to the Miramar office which is literally 5 minutes away from our house. I’ve been putting off looking at daycares because it was supposed to happen by the end of the year, not within the next few months.
I was talking to my boss today and he had told me that he was working on all of the details for our move and it might happen pretty soon. Eeeeeeeek!
Don’t get me wrong this would be a GREAT thing because I could avoid the 45min-1hr drive to and from work. So I’d get a lot of my life back in time. But that means I’ll have to move Mikey to a new daycare closer to home. I’m sure once I find the right one and once he gets adjusted to it, it’ll be a great thing. But part of me is sad because we’ll have to say goodbye to the place that was his 2nd home for a good portion of his little life.
He’ll have to say goodbye to all of his little friends. I know he’ll make new friends, there is no doubt about that. But still it sorta kinda sucks. I immediately went on the daycare hunt calling around. I have about 6 places I need to check out before Gary and I head to DC on Tuesday. I want to make sure I find “THE” place before I head off to DC for 9 days because who knows how soon the plans to move to Miramar will really happen, I need to be prepared.
Despite being in horrible pain because of his 2yr molars coming in, Mikey still managed to do some cute stuff this afternoon. While at home he went over to his little activity table and started playing with that. Turned to his daddy and yelled “YAY!” while clapping. I actually recognized that from something I saw at daycare last week. I went to pick Mikey up in the afternoon, I usually pick him up during snack time. They have all of the kids in groups and their teacher feeds them their snacks. Well one group was waiting on their snack and once they saw their teacher come close with the food they all started clapping and saying “YAY!”. I cracked up because it was so freaking cute. So that’s apparently where he picked that up. I guess they do this for other things. I caught that on video and will upload that soon to share.
The other day I learned that he can identify Mickey Mouse. Granted it doesn’t come out as Mickey Mouse and sounds more like Moe Mow but tonight I heard Mick Mow. So he’s getting close. While in his bath (he has an elmo bath mat) I asked him to show me where Elmo’s ball is, where the fish was, and of course where Elmo was. And he totally surprised me and said Melmo. Now if he would just remove that first M he’d have said Elmo. But he’s close. I totally didn’t expect him to say Elmo, but he did. It’s just absolutely amazing to see him blossom right before my eyes.
And one word O-U-C-H. Mikey is absolutely MISERABLE with this one tooth. He hardly wants to eat or really drink. I’ve seen this behavior before and good thing is I know its absolutely normal. I’m just ready for this teething thing to be done. But we are almost there. Who would have thought that we’d be *THIS* close to the end of teething. The end is indeed in sight. Hey bright side…..he doesn’t tilt when he’s cutting a tooth anymore, now THAT is good news!
Have I said yet how much FUN this is!?!?!?? Over the weekend Mikey started saying Night Night. It’s sooooooo cute. So I pulled out the video camera to capture that just because it was cute how he said it. Well I not only got night night but he turned saw the camera and said CHEESE while smiling. The kid is seriously a trip. Hope you enjoy the video as much as I have.
Holy cow dudes Mikey has gone to Disney 4x already! Haha I wanna say he’s already gone more time than I did as a kid. Shoot I KNOW he has gone more times than I did by his age.
Our trip to Disney was GREAT despite the pouring rain. It got off to a bad start because the first night we wanted to go out to eat dinner at Downtown Disney (since our hotel had a boat to take us there) but we got rained in. So I ended up having to brave the stormy weather to fetch us some food. But overall it was a great trip and we had lots of fun in make-believe land.
Mikey had a lot of firsts on this trip. He drove with daddy on the Speedway (he’s just now tall enough), he also went on the Teacups for the first time with me. It was sooooo much fun. He also went on the Jungle Cruise for the first time. I haven’t been on that one in AGES so it was like my first time too. We had a great time and can’t wait to go back.
We were able to take advantage of a bouncback offer in our hotel room that had the dates for Mikey’s 2nd birthday on it so we booked us a room for his birthday at the Wilderness Lodge. I cannot wait. Since his birthday this year is on a Saturday it makes for the perfect weekend getaway. So no birthday party this year, this year his birthday party will be with all of the Disney characters. I cannot wait!!!
I’m totally loving all of the new words that pop out of Mikey’s mouth these days. He’s getting better saying Apple. He even knows that applesauce is made from Apples. He now says teeth and will even point to his teeth. He’s starting to just really get it. So someday soon I will have my own little parrot repeating everything we say. Guess I better get all of those bad words out of my vocabulary and FAST.
I’ve heard a lot about how lots of boys explode with their speed around 20 months. For us it appears to have FINALLY happened but at 19 months. NOTHING is better than being able to understand your child. Really helps with some of the temper tantrums because I know what he’s trying to say. But of course there is still a LOT that I don’t know. This week he added his ever expanding vocab list. He now says Appp..L for apple, Tree, Hop, and Up. All in one week. My favorite word still is Nana though. The way he says it is SOOOOOOO cute. Last night he found one of his board books that he knows has pictures of bananas in it so he went found the book and immediately started saying Nana and looked for the page with the bananas. I hit Gary’s leg because I couldn’t believe that he remembered exactly which book he had to go to. It’s amazing how their little minds work.
Oh and we are heading back to the Happiest Place on Earth tomorrow.
Can’t wait to see Mikey with the characters and just have fun. Even if the weather is crappy we are gonna have a blast!
This last week has been a mini-language explosion for Mikey. It first started with him looking through one of his books and seeing a picture of a banana. He pointed and said Nana. So now anytime he sees bananas he makes sure that EVERYONE around him sees it too.
Then over the weekend we were hanging out with our friend’s the Barrera’s and my friend, Melanie, and I took the kids to Kohl’s so that I could find a bathing suit for our trip to Disney this weekend. While we were at the store we both learned that Mikey knows how to say Cheese, Agua, and Mas. Not sure if he just picked this up from his friend Sophia or if he’s known these all along and I’ve just never heard it.
Gary and I thought we heard more yesterday. Like I thought he said Bear. But until he says it a few times I’m not counting it as a word he knows just yet
Today was Mikey’s last official Physical Therapy session. It was a nice quick session and half an hour later it was over. So a little over a year after starting PT its all over. A little bitter sweet but I’m so very glad its over.
